Research Interests
I use narrative inquiry to study multicultural education in diverse school contexts.
I have engaged in a long term research project in an inner
city school in Toronto, Canada. My particular focus in the
school was on immigrant and ESL issues, programs that foster
immigrant parental involvement, and contributions minority teachers make to schools and education.
I also do research on teacher development. My current
research focuses on teacher development related to
developing multicultural awareness in international field
experiences. I also do a project in Hong Kong in which I
examine minority student and parent experiences after the
passage of an anti-discrimination bill.

Teaching Interests
In
my graduate teaching I use a narrative approach to understanding multicultural issues in education in the USA and internationally.
I teach EDCI 585: Multicultural Education, usually in
the spring term. My focus is on language, culture and identity
issues. I also teach EDCI 684: Seminar in Curriculum
focused on an array of research interests of my doctoral
students. In my undergraduate teaching I use a narrative approach to understand issues of importance to beginning teachers.
I coordinate EDCI 205: Exploring Teaching as a Career. I have also developed a Study Abroad Program in Honduras in Maymester.
I have taught in Canada, Japan and Hong Kong as well as the
USA.
